The three varieties selected by Prime Minister Modi include CR Dhan 108, CR Dhan 810 and CR Dhan 416. CR Dhan 108 variety is suitable for drought-prone areas and has an average productivity of 32 quintals per hectare. This variety matures in 112 days and has medium thin grains. CR Dhan 810 variety is suitable for flood-prone areas and has the capacity to absorb water. It can be planted in low-lying areas of Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam. CR Dhan 416 variety is suitable for saline soils, especially in West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. Its average productivity is 43 quintals per hectare and maturity period is 125 days.
NRRI has so far developed 188 varieties of rice, suitable for different farming systems of the country. The institute has been working on improved varieties of rice for 78 years and was earlier known as Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI). Currently, it is under the administrative control of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated three new rice varieties developed by Odisha scientists to the nation. These varieties have been developed with the aim of higher yields on less land. Scientists of National Rice Research Institute (NRRI) are extremely happy with this achievement, as the Prime Minister specially selected and released the varieties developed by them.
