Farmers do not meet zinc deficiency or apply only 4-5 kg zinc sulphate per acre. Zinc deficiency usually appears 2-3 weeks after planting. Continuous standing water in the field also leads to zinc deficiency. Seedlings are stunted and there is very little budha. Veins of the lower leaves become pale yellow spots in the midrib which later turn brown. Symptoms of zinc deficiency in alkaline soils are similar to those of sulfur and iron deficiency. If the amount of zinc in the soil test report is less than 60 grams per acre, zinc deficiency may occur. Spread 25 kg Zinc Sulphate Heptahydrate (21%) or 16 kg Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate (33%) per acre at the time of pumpkin planting. In spite of application of zinc sulphate in poor soils, zinc deficiency is observed in stair.. In such a case, mix 6.5 kg of zinc sulphate monohydrate (33%) in dry soil and scatter in the deficient areas. Farmers are advised to apply zinc in full quantity and avoid continuous standing water.
