Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed for speedy lifting of paddy from the state's mandis. Giving priority to the convenience of farmers, officials were asked to ensure that there is no delay in the transportation of procured paddy. Strict action was warned against those obstructing the procurement process. The contribution of Punjab farmers, who played a vital role in foodgrain production, was appreciated. This year, the state is expected to contribute 185 lakh metric tonnes of paddy to the national food reserves. Arrangements have been made for paddy procurement in 2651 mandis in the state. So far, 24.88 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has arrived, out of which procurement of 22.22 lakh metric tonnes has been completed. ₹4,027 crore has been paid to farmers. The Chief Minister stressed the need for regular monitoring to ensure transparency and smooth process.
