Pink bollworm attack on cotton crop has started increasing again in Punjab state. According to entomologists of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), no infestation of this pest has been found in cotton fields in villages Khialichalan Wali and Sahnewali of Mansa district. Professor and Head of Department Dr. Manish Brar Bhullar has advised farmers to be vigilant and regularly monitor their cotton crop to detect the pest on time. Senior entomologist Dr Vijay Kumar advised cotton farmers to spray the following insecticides in case of pink bollworm attack: 500 ml Profenophos 50 EC (Curacron/Carina) 100 g Procalam 5 SG (Emamectin Benzoate) 200 ml Indoxacarb 15 SC (Avant) 250 ml Thiodicarb 75 WP (Larvin) 800 ml Ethion 50 EC (Phosmite) These insecticides should be dissolved in 150 liters of water and sprayed per acre. It is advisable to repeat the spraying at an interval of seven days for effective management.
