This export will be done through National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL). The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has given this information in a notification. Export of non-basmati white rice is prohibited from July 20, 2023 to increase domestic supply. Export is allowed on the basis of special permission by the government to meet the food security requirements of certain countries. Malawi is a landlocked country in South-East Africa, while Zimbabwe is a country in South Africa. As per the notification, each country has been allowed to export 1,000 tonnes of non-basmati rice. India has previously allowed exports to countries like Nepal, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Malaysia, Philippines, and Seychelles. NCEL is a multi-state cooperative society jointly promoted by the leading cooperatives of the country. It comprises Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) popularly known as AMUL, Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO), and National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED).
