The government removed the minimum export price (MEP) of $490 per tonne on export consignments of non-basmati white rice. The move has been taken to boost exports and increase farmers' income. On September 28, the government lifted the complete ban on export of non-basmati white rice, but implemented MEP. There is adequate stock of rice in government warehouses in the country, and retail prices are under control. India exported non-basmati white rice worth $201 million during April-August. Non-basmati rice exports stood at $852.52 million in 2023-24.
