The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare held an inter-ministerial meeting on stubble burning management. The meeting was attended by Union Agriculture and Environment Ministers, as well as representatives from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. The incidence of stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana has decreased compared to last year. Haryana announced Rs 1000 per acre incentive for stubble management, 2G ethanol plants, Rs 500 per metric ton top-up in clusters, and Rs 4000 per acre subsidy for direct seeding (DSR) of rice. States were suggested to effectively utilize 3 lakh in-situ and ex-situ machines, increase the use of bio-decomposers. The Centre has released an amount of Rs 275 crore for stubble management. The meeting emphasised on the plan to focus on “Mission Zero Burning” to curb stubble burning and minimise environmental impact.
