Do not allow water to stagnate in paddy fields. Irrigate after two days till the water is absorbed in the soil, but do not allow cracks to appear in the fields. Apply final dose of nitrogen (30 kg urea/acre) if not already applied. In short duration varieties like PR 126, apply third dose of urea 5 weeks after transplanting. If more than 5% dead hearts are observed in the fields due to stem borer, spray 60 ml Coragen 18.5 SC, 20 ml Fame 480 SC, 50 g Takumi 20 WG, 170 g Mortar 75 SG, or 1 liter Corban/Dursban/Lethal/Chlorguard/Duramet/Classic/Force 20 EC, or 80 ml Neem based bio-pesticide, Ecotin mixed in 100 liters of water per acre. Basmati: Use urea @ 18 kg/acre for CSR 30, Punjab Basmati 7, 5, Pusa Basmati 1121 and 1718, 36 kg/acre for Pusa Basmati 1847 and 1509. Apply urea in two equal parts at 3 and 6 weeks after transplanting. This advice has been given to farmers by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana.
