India approved the export of 1,000 tonnes of non-basmati white rice to Namibia through National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL). Export of non-basmati white rice is banned from July 20, 2023 to boost domestic supply. Export is approved to some countries on special request to meet their food security needs. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has allowed export through NCEL. India's non-basmati white rice exports stood at $122.7 million in April-May 2023 and $852.53 million in the full year 2023-24. Earlier also, India has allowed rice exports to countries like Nepal, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Malaysia, Philippines and Seychelles. NCEL is a multi-state cooperative society jointly promoted by major cooperative societies.
