Today the festival of Bakrid is being celebrated with great pomp all over the country. The sale of goats suddenly increases during Bakrid. Goat rearing can be a profitable business throughout the year. Crores of rupees are traded on Bakrid, this year goats worth 30 thousand crores were traded on Bakrid. Goats are sold at different rates in goat markets, usually their price starts from 12 to 15 thousand rupees, some goats are sold for lakhs of rupees. There is a good demand for goats during the wedding season, more goats are sold in urban areas than in rural areas. Famous breeds of goats include Sirohi, Barbari etc. The price of beautiful goats of pure breed ranges from 40 thousand to 50 thousand rupees. On the occasion of Bakrid, one and a half to two crore goats are sold, the total revenue of which is between 25 to 30 thousand crores. During the year 2022-23, India exported 9,592.31 metric tonnes of sheep and goat meat, worth about Rs 537.18 crore.
