Draft of new agriculture policy prepared in Punjab. Recommendation of long duration paddy varieties and ban on paddy cultivation in 15 blocks. Crops are being irrigated with 13.91 lakh tube wells and agricultural pumps in the state. There is a serious groundwater crisis in 15 out of 150 blocks, more than 300% groundwater is being exploited. Cultivation of low water consuming crops, such as cotton, maize, sugarcane and vegetables will be promoted. Recommendation of pension scheme for farmers with less land and legal guarantee of MSP on crops. Suggestion of 'Save Water, Earn Money' scheme and loan waiver scheme. Proposal for pension scheme for women, elderly and promotion of organic farming.
