Kharif paddy production is expected to be higher this year than last year, although heavy rains have damaged some crops. Rains damaged paddy crops in some areas of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, but it will not affect production. Kharif paddy crop, which is harvested in November, accounts for 70% of the country's total rice production, Kharif rice production in 2023-24 stood at 114.36 million tonnes. This year the rice acreage has increased by 1.64 million hectares to 41 million hectares. Despite damage to oilseed crops like soybean, the overall production of oilseeds and pulses will be better. The government has set a target of purchasing 485 lakh tonnes of Kharif rice and there is also a focus on millets. The government has provided new seeds of 109 varieties of 65 crops to farmers, and plans to make improved seeds available in time for the Rabi season. Efforts are underway to double farmers' income, and many farmers' incomes have more than doubled in initial surveys. "Adhunik Krishi Chaupal" will be started from October, in which direct communication will be done with farmers and farmer organizations every Tuesday. Call centers will also be set up to solve farmers' problems.
