Sugarcane should be harvested on time so that maximum yield can be obtained, in North India sugarcane sown in autumn is harvested in 15 months. In the method of harvesting sugarcane, care should be taken that the sugarcane is cut till the ground level and foreign objects are removed. Symptoms of yellowing or drying of leaves should be kept in mind and the crop should be kept green with irrigation water. By tapping mature sugar canes, sugar crystals can be seen shining. Covering the cut sugarcane with garbage and keeping it in shade can reduce the accumulation of sugar and can dry the sugarcane in the sun. When sugarcane is kept lying in the field, it should be covered with leaves and kept away from sunlight and the sugarcane should be lightly sprayed with water. By keeping the above mentioned points in mind, deterioration and loss in sugar recovery from sugarcane harvesting can be avoided, thereby allowing the farmer to earn more profits.
