In the district, farmers cultivate zaid moong after harvesting the Rabi crop.
Herbicides like glyphosate and paraquat are used to dry the moong crop during harvesting.
The remains of these herbicides remain in the crop, which has adverse effects on humans, animals, birds, soil and microorganisms.
These chemicals remain in the soil and water for a long time, which can cause serious diseases.
The Deputy Director of Agriculture appealed to the farmers to use pesticides and weedicides only as per scientific recommendations.
Farmers have been advised to avoid the use of unnecessary pesticides and herbicides, especially glyphosate and paraquat.
