Sowing Time: After harvesting of Basmati, Berseem can be sown till the end of November. Green fodder can be harvested three times and then it can be left for seed production. Sowing can be done till the first fortnight of January, after which it is suitable to leave for seed production. Weed Management:Chicory and other weeds should be completely removed from the crop to ensure better seed yield. Irrigation: Frequent irrigation of the crop during seed setting and ripening is necessary for healthy seed production. Suitable Time for Seed Harvesting:For BL 42, BL 43, and BL 44 varieties, the crop should be left for seed production in the first fortnight of April. For BL 10 variety, it is advisable to leave in the second fortnight of April. With proper management, seed yield can be up to 2 quintals per acre. Measures for good seed production:After flowering, spray 2% potassium nitrate (13:0:45) twice every week. Along with this, two sprays can be done by mixing 7.5 grams of salicylic acid in 225 ml of ethyl alcohol per acre.
