Main causes of fire
- Short-circuit in the electric transformer or sparks from worn out wires.
- Throwing bidi, cigarette or matchstick causes fire in the fields.
- Sparks from agricultural machines (thresher, combine).
- Fire spreads rapidly due to dry crops and strong winds in the summer season.
Measures to prevent fire
- Clear the place by cutting the crop up to 10 feet near the transformer.
- Inform the electricity department to get the worn out wires and transformers checked.
- Do not throw bidi, cigarette or matchstick in the fields.
- Keep the belt of the combine machine tight, so that sparks do not come out.
- Keep the silencer of the tractor and combine upwards.
- Make a 5-6 feet wide fire line (safety strip) around the fields.
- Keep a water tank and sand bags nearby so that the fire can be extinguished.
- Avoid burning stubble and dry grass.
Tips to keep the crop safe
- Harvest the crop soon after it is ripe, delaying may cause the ears to fall.
- Harvest unirrigated fields first and irrigated fields later.
- Keep the crop safe by harvesting on time and reduce the chances of fire.
