Important steps taken by the Government of India on pesticides
Complete ban on pesticides: The Government of India has completely banned the manufacture, import, and use of certain pesticides in a directive issued on March 31, 2024. This includes more than 40 pesticides, including alachlor, endosulfan, and phoret. These pesticides have been considered dangerous to the environment and human health.
Permission to manufacture only for export: The use of some pesticides is banned in India, but they are allowed to be manufactured only for the purpose of export.
