  • Cow rearing was common in India earlier, but now this practice is limited to rural areas.
  • Cow rearing is now done as a business in urban areas.
  • Due to limited veterinary facilities in villages, caring for cows in summer becomes challenging.
  • Due to lack of information, many times cattle keepers are not able to identify diseases on time.


Common cow diseases occurring in summer:

Mastitis:

  • Symptoms: Swelling in the udders, pellets in milk.
  • Treatment: Periodic examination of udders and milk, appropriate medicine.


Diphtheria fever:

  • Symptoms:Swelling in the throat, difficulty in breathing.
  • Treatment:Antibiotics and injections, vaccination before rains.


Milk fever:

  • Symptoms: Low body temperature, difficulty in breathing.
  • Treatment: Do not extract the entire milk for 15 days after delivery, give calcium-rich diet and supplements.

  • Limping fever:

    • Symptoms: High fever (106–107 degrees), swelling in legs, limping.
    • Treatment: Keep the infected cow isolated, get timely vaccination done.
