- Dangerous insect for wheat crop, it enters the stems and eats the tissues.
- Plants become weak and turn yellow and can be uprooted easily.
- Infestation is more in paddy, maize, sugarcane and cotton growing areas.
Identification of affected crop:
- Pink caterpillars are seen in the lower veins of infected plants.
Pink stem borer management measures:
- Regular monitoring of crop and destruction of infected plants by uprooting them by hand.
- Use nitrogen fertilizers in divided doses.
- In case of high infestation, spray Quinalphos 25% EC (1000 ml per 500 liters of water).
Termite control measures:
- Treat seeds with chlorpyrifos, thiamethoxam or fipronil.
- Use 4.5 ml of product quantity per kg of seed.
Benefits:
- These measures can protect the crop from pests.
- Yield can be improved and farming can be made more profitable.
