Measures for pest control:

• Clean the field and remove old residues.
• Treat the seeds before sowing and sow the crop on time.
• Collect and destroy saw fly larva in the morning.
• Spray insecticide in the morning or evening if the insect infestation is more than the economic damage level.

Subsidy on insecticide:

• Farmers will have to send the insect-disease survey report (Form-5) to the Agriculture Department immediately to get subsidy on insecticide.
• This will allocate subsidy in the affected area, so that the crop can be saved on time.

Rajasthan Agriculture Department issued guidelines to protect mustard crop from pests like painted bug and saw fly. Painted bug damages the crop by sucking the juice of leaves in the initial days of germination. Saw fly larva eats the leaves at the stage of 25-30 days and leaves only the stalk.
