Performance of nano-urea and zinc

The research compared foliar spray of conventional urea and nano-urea with different zinc fertilization techniques. The results showed that the use of 130 kg N/ha of conventional urea was superior to nano-urea, especially in grain and straw yields. Although nano-urea reduced the nitrogen dose, it could not meet the entire nitrogen requirement of the crop, resulting in a yield drop of 6.8-12.4%.

Effect of Zinc Fertilization

Foliar spray of 0.1% nano-zinc oxide proved effective in increasing wheat yield by 3.7-4.5%. It also improved nitrogen uptake, highlighting the importance of zinc fertilization.

Effect on Productivity

Wheat plots fertilized with 130 kg N/ha nitrogen gave 23.2-33.1% higher yields than control plots. In contrast, the use of 65 kg N/ha and nano-urea resulted in a decline in yields, indicating the limitations of nano-urea.

An important study titled “Relative performance of urea and nano-urea with zinc fertilization: effects on growth, productivity, and nitrogen use efficiency” has provided new insights on the use of nano-urea in Indian agriculture. The research was conducted at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, between 2021-2023 and focused on spring wheat (Triticum aestivum).
