Rice is the main Kharif crop and is cultivated in many states of the country. But due to high water consumption, farmers of some states have started staying away from it. About 3,000 liters of water is required to produce one kg of paddy, which is the highest compared to other crops.

Coconut manure for saving water in paddy cultivation

The Haryana government is giving subsidy to farmers who leave paddy cultivation and cultivate other crops. Apart from this, paddy can be cultivated in less water by using special coconut manure through a new technology.

Manufacture and use of coconut manure

  • Coconut and dhab are mixed and left to rot, which prepares manure.
  • By sprinkling this manure in the field, moisture remains in the soil and paddy cultivation becomes possible with just one irrigation.
  • By using coconut manure, one irrigation is required instead of four irrigations, which saves both water and money.

Quantity and benefits of coconut manure

  • One kilogram of coconut manure absorbs 10 liters of water.
  • This manure is prepared naturally and does not have any adverse effect on crops.
  • The use of coconut manure gives good yield of paddy and saves water.

Requirement of chemical fertilizers

In paddy cultivation, the amount of manure and fertilizer is given according to the variety: ► For short duration varieties, 100 kg nitrogen, 40 kg phosphorus, and 40 kg potash per hectare.

  • For medium duration varieties, 150 kg nitrogen, 50 kg phosphorus, and 50 kg potash.
  • For long duration varieties, 150 kg nitrogen, 50 kg phosphorus, and 80 kg potash.
