Yellowing of wheat crop may be due to nitrogen deficiency, unbalanced fertilizer use or adverse weather conditions. ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal has suggested some measures to deal with the problem of yellowing. Yellow Rust Disease: It is more prevalent in northwestern and northern hilly areas. For this, spray propiconazole @ 0.1% or tebuconazole 50% + trifloxystrobin 25% @ 0.06%. Repeat spraying at an interval of 15 days. General tips to prevent yellowing: Do not use excess nitrogen (urea), especially in fog or cloudy conditions. Select suitable varieties according to regional conditions. Use balanced fertilizer, irrigation, herbicides and fungicides judiciously. Do timely and judicious irrigation, which saves water. Keep a close watch on the weather forecast and check the possibility of rain before irrigation. Avoid burning crop residues, it is better to mix them in the soil or leave them on the surface. Do top dressing of urea just before irrigation.
