Black thrips are also affecting tomato crops, which suck the nectar of the flowers and make them fall, thereby reducing production capacity. Deputy Director of Horticulture Department P S Badole has given important suggestions to farmers so that they can keep their crops safe. The first attack of black thrips was on the chilli crop in Guntur area, and now it has started spreading to other areas as well. There is not much difference between black thrips and ordinary thrips, and sap sucking medicines are used to control them. Medicines should be sprayed alternately, in which odor type medicines are effective. Sulfur can be used initially to control thrips and spiders. Medicines like Prion and Oberon should be sprayed at the rate of 17ml per pump. Systemic insecticides like Super Confidor (amido chloropic) can be used on alternate days. Spraying of pesticides should be done with a power pump so that the effect of pesticides can be better on the flowers.
