Sugarcane is cultivated on a large scale in India, but this crop remains vulnerable to pests and diseases. Due to the recent floods in the Sharda river, the fields were flooded, due to which the "red rot disease" in sugarcane is spreading rapidly and the sugarcane turns red. In Lakhimpur Kheri of UP, "red rot" (cancer of sugarcane) disease has affected the crops, due to which farmers are worried. This disease is caused by a fungus called Colletotrichum falcatum, which disrupts the plant tissue, causing the leaves to turn yellow and dry up. According to agricultural scientists, to prevent red rot disease, farmers can use 2 kg of Trichoderma insecticide per acre and the infected sugarcane should be burnt.
