The UP government has launched a new scheme to promote garlic cultivation. Under the scheme, the unit cost has been fixed at Rs 30,000 per hectare. Farmers will get 40% (maximum Rs 12,000) subsidy per hectare, which is available for 0.2 to 4.0 hectares. Garlic seed will be available from National Horticultural Research and Development Institute, New Delhi at the rate of Rs 370-390 per kg. In this scheme, a target has been set to cultivate garlic in 10,000 hectares of additional area across the state. The benefit of the scheme will be available on first come, first serve basis.
