Charcoal or biochar can be used as fertilizer in farming, which increases the fertility of the soil. Charcoal can be made at home by 'drum method'; in this, biomass residue is put on fire in a drum and cooked for 90-95 minutes and then covered with wet soil. It can be sprinkled in the field at a depth of 10-15 cm or in standing crops, which helps in increasing crop yield. Charcoal can be used by reducing some amount of manure, which fulfills the nutrition. Charcoal made at 500-600 degree Celsius is more beneficial and increases microorganisms in the soil. It helps in better growth of plants by providing nutrients in the initial stage of the crop. Charcoal reduces the acidity of the soil and keeps the pH value balanced.
