
A large number of farmers in Kosi area including Saharsa cultivate pigeon pea. Due to lack of correct information, farmers suffer losses. According to Dr. Nityanand Rai, senior scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Saharsa, some special points should be kept in mind while cultivating pigeon pea.
20 kg nitrogen and 50 kg phosphate is recommended per hectare. Nitrogen should be used in the form of urea.
When the rains start, plough the field two-three times. Do the first ploughing with a soil turning plough and the second with a local plough. At the time of sowing, add 5 tonnes of rotten cow dung per hectare and mix it well.
Spray insecticides two-three times to control pod borer and leaf roller insects. First spraying:Indoscarb 0.5 ml per liter of water. Second spraying: Monocrotophos after 15 days. Uproot and throw away the plants affected by wilt disease from the field.
