The Central Government has denied the recent reports claiming shortage of DAP in Punjab and its impact on Rabi crop. The government clarified that adequate availability of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers has been ensured in Punjab. At the beginning of October 2024, Punjab had a stock of 99,000 metric tonnes of DAP, 59,000 metric tonnes of NPK and 78,000 metric tonnes of SSP. As of 29 October 2024, Punjab received additional supply of 92,000 metric tonnes of DAP, 18,000 metric tonnes of NPK and 9,000 metric tonnes of SSP from the Centre. In the Rabi season till October 2024, Punjab used 1,00,000 metric tonnes of DAP, 28,000 metric tonnes of NPK and 12,000 metric tonnes of SSP. Currently Punjab has a stock of 90,000 MT DAP, 49,000 MT NPK and 76,000 MT SSP. Additional supply of 50,000 MT DAP is being made by the Centre to Punjab in the first week of November. Import of DAP has been impacted due to the Red Sea crisis from January 2024, but the government has kept the price of DAP stable at ₹1350 per 50 kg bag. Domestic production of DAP and NPK is continuing at full capacity and the government is constantly monitoring its availability. Coordination is being done with Railways, State Government, Port Authority and Fertilizer Companies for stable supply of fertilizers.
