
Food Corporation of India (FCI) and state agencies have so far procured 85.41 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of paddy in Punjab during Kharif marketing season 2024-25. As of November 2, 90.69 LMT paddy reached the Mandis of Punjab, most of which has been procured at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 2320 per quintal. This procurement has benefited 4 lakh farmers to the tune of Rs 19,800 crore. 4640 millers have applied for shelling of paddy, out of which 4132 millers have been assigned the work by the state government. Procurement of paddy for KMS 2024-25 in Punjab started from 1 October 2024, and is being conducted through 2927 Mandis and temporary yards. The central government has set a target of purchasing 185 LMT paddy in Punjab this season, which will continue till November 30, 2024. There was some delay in the procurement process due to heavy rainfall in September and high moisture in paddy, but now the process is going on smoothly.
